Sterling’s is operated by the father-son team of Baxter Simmons Sr. and Jr. After growing up in Hampton, Baxter Jr. returned to the area in the fall of 2003, to open the restaurant. A 1996 graduate of the University of Virginia, he gained experience in different restaurant operations in Charlottesville, Va., Atlanta, Ga., and the Washington, D.C. area. Baxter Jr. has worked in the kitchen, and as a server, a bartender, and a manager during his 12 years in the industry. Baxter Sr. has over 20 years experience in the hospitality business dating back to his start in the 1960’s. His resume includes management, ownership, and catering as well as hotel food and beverage experience.

While dining out on Granby Street in the summer of 2003, Baxter Jr. recognized the absence of a steakhouse in the Downtown Area. Soon thereafter, he joined with his father to begin construction on Sterling’s. The 245 Granby Street space, adjacent to the Tazewell Hotel, went from a rough shell to open for business in a short three months. On December 6, 2003, the culmination of their hard work was realized when Sterling’s opened to the public.   Back in 2006, we began looking into building a Sterling's in Greenbrier with Kahn Development.  And on August 27th, we are very happy to bring to Chesapeake Towne Place at Greenbrier...Sterling's!!!
